Odense Inner Harbor
Odense Havn has been a key element in the industrial development of Odense. Today the industrial harbor activities have been moved, and the harbor has started a gradual transition into a lively mixed use area by the water.
The vision for the area is to become a spectacular, urban and green harbor area with a visible history and high architectural qualities.
EFFEKT and Tredje Natur, together with BRIQ, LYTT and SWECO, have developed a vision for the area into a green, lush and active area with a creative pulse and identity based on the historic buildings in the area.
Each neighborhood is developed based on the unique qualities in the surrounding land- and waterscapes, and an analyses of the transformation potential in the historic buildings in the area. For instance, “Siloøen” will be based on the historical building structure combined with tall sculptural buildings in a lush landscape park. “Byens Ø” is based on a principle of a public promenade connecting public, cultural and commercial programs on the periphery of the island, while the central areas are designed as a diverse activity landscape. “Skovkvarteret” will connect the two forests and create a neighborhood based on the quality of the proximity to the forests.
The green strategy for the area ensures that all areas has a local park within 300 meters, and the area will have a “biofactor” exceeding 1, with a lot of new trees connecting the forests and the harbor, and a high degree of biodiversity. A new harbor park connects the harbor with the station area, creating a new connection between central parts of Odense and the water.
A new natural harbour bath is created as a supplement to the existing clorine bath, and a variety of new relations to the water is created, with stairs, floating islands and an upgraded marina.
The strategy for sustainable mobility is based on high class connections, bridges and promenades for bicycles and pedestrians, combined with 3 mobility hubs with access to shared electrical cars, busses and private parking.
