A 5-month-long design process culminated on May 18th, when the team presented the final vision for the transformation of the Frederiksberg hospital area to both the jury and the public.
EFFEKT and Arkitema have worked together to propose a vision for the future development of the area into a lush, mixed and integrated neighborhood in central Frederiksberg, and to suggest ideas on how to activate and utilize the spaces during the 6-year transition.
The area is the last major area in Frederiksberg to be repurposed.
Once transformed, the 14-hectares area will house around 2000 new inhabitants and form a completely new city district in the heart of Frederiksberg, offering the dwellers the experience of living in an urban oasis filled with nature, in car-free and lush alleys and avenues, through green urban spaces, and with a central park in the middle.
The vision for Frederiksberg Hospital will enhance and build upon the rich cultural heritage of the area, which hosts many relevant historical buildings and large centenary trees. A strategy based on a unique blend of special cultural heritage and forward-thinking solutions, where the ambition is to set an example that contributes to the sustainability ambitions of the municipality and allows the new dwellers to live within the planetary boundaries.
Three teams have presented their proposal, including team Sleth and team Vandkunsten/Sla.
All proposals are now public and can be explored here.
