EFFEKT wins the tender for the urban conversion and climate proofing in Tønder, Denmark, in a team with Envidan, Trafikplan and Jørgen Overby´s Tegnestue.
The urban and climate adaptation plan for Tønder Midtby deals with the public areas of the town´s center both on an overall and detailed level. The necessity of a climate adaptation plan for Tønder to manage the frequent storm waters is transformed into an opportunity to enhace Tønder history and identity, by reorganizing the public spaces to respond to the needs of the local community and visitors and by reconnecting the city center with the water and green spaces.
The first part of the project that is expected to be realized is the area named Sculpture Garden, which will open to the public on May 1st 2020, on the occasion of the visit of the Danish Queen Margrethe II to Tønder.
The project is part of the Tøndermarsk Initiativet, a collaboration between Realdania, AP Møller and Hustru Chastine Mc-Kinney Møllers Fond for Almene Formaal, the Nordea Foundation and the municipality of Tønder to develop the Tønder wetlands, making the area even more attractive to visit, live and work in.
