Refshaleøen Development Playbook
As part of the Open Ideas Competition by Refshaleøen Ejendomsselskab and By & Havn, the project proposes a Playbook for steering Refshaleøen Development within Social and Planetary Boundaries, taking a departure point in the core principles of “Doughnut for Urban Development: A Manual”.
The development of Refshaleøen should not hamper the possibility of a thriving future. With this challenge in mind, this playbook offers a forward-looking strategy, aligning Refshaleøen with local and global, ecological and social demands.
We acknowledge the connection between planetary health and human well-being, and we understand business as a means to this end, not a goal within itself. Socio-economic objectives cannot be achieved without first stabilizing the climate and regenerating ecosystems. This hierarchy is the organizing principle of this playbook.
It’s not just a concept; it’s an opportunity and actionable plan for compliance with current and regulations like the CSDR and EU Taxonomy.
This proposal builds on the latest industry knowledge and up-to-date climate science by providing targets, tools and background knowledge needed to lead the way (e.g. Reduction Roadmap and Velux Compass Model).
The playbook is subdivided into three categories Planet, Social, and Business in order of impact potential.
It sets measurable, absolute targets for the two core planetary boundaries climate stability and healthy ecosystems and requires full responsibility for the social impacts on-site as well as along the global supply chain.
The proposal is open source (copyleft) and available for download and use here.
