Pavilions at Refshaleøen
Our design proposal serves as the foundation for an exciting pilot project, initially consisting of three pavilions located in a new temporary cultural zone at the northern tip of Refshaleøen.
In response to the question, ‘How can we create flexible pavilions for workshops, exhibitions, studios, and offices as part of a new temporary cultural zone on Refshaleøen?’, our proposal offers a solution that builds on Refshaleøen’s unique industrial DNA. It combines high ceilings, spacious areas for creative activities and workshop ambiance with space for contemplation within a community-oriented architectural concept.
The pavilions are movable so they can be set up elsewhere on the site. Additionally, they can be scaled up over time if the need arises during the ongoing development of Refshaleøen.
The proposal suggests biogenic and renewable materials for all parts of the pavilions and the construction cost is expected to remain manageable. They will stand on screw foundations, be heated with heat pumps, and the construction cost is expected to remain manageable. Furthermore, we have partnered with Enemærke & Petersen as the contractor to build on our previous collaboration on Living Places Copenhagen in Jernbanebyen. Based on experience, the preliminary assessment is that the new pavilions on Refshaleøen can be established with an even lower CO2 footprint, estimated at approximately 3.5 kg CO2/m2/year.
