Visit Living Places Copenhagen
April 22 - December 31 2023
Living Places Copenhagen is a proud partner project created in collaboration with VELUX, Artelia and Enemærke & Petersen. The exhibition of seven prototypes – five open pavilions and two finished homes in full scale – rethinks how we build today and challenges the building industry to create responsible and sustainable solutions that benefit both people and the planet.
We are delighted to announce that we will be offering a number of guided group tours and private tours of Living Places Copenhagen due to the overwhelming interest in the project. It also possible to book the location without a guide.

Exhibition at the Danish Architecture Center: Copenhagen in Common
May 5 - October 22 2023
The exhibition “Copenhagen in Common” is part of the larger program for Copenhagen as the World Capital of Architecture in 2023 and explores the Danish tradition of community thinking and citizen involvement in architecture.
EFFEKT’s project Urban Village is featured in the exhibition with a vision of a new way of building that ensures sustainable, affordable and livable housing for the many. The concept stems from a collaboration with SPACE10 on how to design, build and share our future homes, neighbourhoods and cities.

Exhibition at the Danish Architecture Center: So Danish!

Architecture has always played a major role in Danish society. The exhibition So Danish! at DAC provides an overview of Danish architecture from the Viking Age to the present day and gives an insight into the important role architecture has played historically for our democratic society and will continue to play for our common sustainable future.
Three of our projects are featured in the exhibition: The Forest Tower at Camp Adventure (a 45 meter tall observation tower with a curved profile creating a unique opportunity to walk among the trees and experience the stunning nature of the preserved forest, Gisselfeld Klosters Skove), Regen Villages (resilient eco-villages that can power and feed self-reliant families around the world) and Gellerup Park (a transformation designed in collaboration with SLA of a socially challenged neighbourhood into an integrated part of Aarhus City with new green spaces referencing wild nature).

Exhibition: Frederiksberg Hospital – Copenhagen’s new neighborhood!
June 21 - December 31 2023
Take a walk through the beautiful hospital grounds and learn about the "Grow the new out of the old" development plan. An outdoor exhibition gives an insight into how Frederiksberg Hospital will be transformed into a completely new urban area when Frederiksberg Hospital closes in 2027.
EFFEKT and Arkitema have worked together to propose a vision for the future development of the area into a lush, mixed and integrated neighborhood in central Frederiksberg, and to suggest ideas for how to activate and utilize the spaces during the 6-year transition. The vision for Frederiksberg Hospital will enhance and build upon the rich cultural heritage of the area with its many relevant historical buildings and large centenary trees. The ambition is to set an example that fulfills the sustainability ambitions of Frederiksberg Municipality and allows the new inhabitants to live within the planetary boundaries.
Touring Exhibition: Danish architecture on the way to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals – can we build for a better future?

We are happy that Game StreetMekka Viborg is included in the newly released ‘A Guide to Danish Architecture’, published by the Danish Association of Architects. The guide showcases 60 recent Danish architecture projects, each of which contributes to achieving one or more Sustainable Development Goals.
On the occasion of the UIA World Congress of Architects in Copenhagen 2023, a selection of the architectural projects in the book have been turned into a nationwide touring exhibition "Danish architecture on the way to the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals – can we build for a better future?" Although very different, the projects all have in common that they challenge the status quo and represent a holistic design approach.

Panel discussion: Emerging technologies for decarbonizing the built environment

EFFEKT architect Dani Hill-Hansen will take part in the panel discussing how the pursuit of more sustainable buildings is reflected in modern working practices of architects and their dialogue with clients and supported by innovation in advanced materials and digital technologies to incorporate lifecycle assessments and substitution choices in real time into the design process.
Other panelists: Michael Ambjørn (CEO Proptech Denmark), Liz Gilligan (Founder and CEO, Material Evolution,), Lucas Carstens (Founder and CEO, Modulize).
The panel discussion will be followed by an introduction to the Living Places concept by the VELUX Group and EFFEKT architect, Juan Pablo Herrero Gil.

VELUX Special Session: Future Living Places

Join EFFEKT Co-founder Sinus Lynge in a panel discussion with Kate Raworth, Boris Schade-Bünsow, Kasper Guldager, Elizabeth Endres, Claire McManus and Lars Petersson.
They will discuss the new parameters and models for the creation of housing for future generations in an urban context and in all other scales and ask: How can buildings help resolve global climate and health challenges through sustainable solutions and practical action that promote a low carbon footprint, liveability and societal cohesion? What are the investment models that allow for sustainable, people-centric development of new and existing buildings? And what is the sustainable house of the future?

The politics of architectural quality in a time of (housing) crisis

As a response to the current housing crisis in Iceland, a framework agreement was signed, between the Icelandic government and the Icelandic Association of Local Authorities to secure a dramatic growth of 25% in the country’s housing stock over the next 10 years. Iceland’s situation is far from unique and sets the ground for a wider conversation.
How can political policies ensure visionary and sustainable developments that address our current social and environmental challenges? What processes can ensure the participation of multiple publics in large scale decision making? How can architects and urban planners work together with authorities to make regulations that substantiate architectural and urban quality? These are among the topics EFFEKT Co-founder Sinus Lynge will be reflecting on in a panel discussion between architects, urban planners, public stakeholders, and policy makers.

Comply with the Paris Agreement: Can we build within planetary boundaries?

Swing by Living Places Copenhagen for a drink and a talk about the journey of the Reduction Roadmap by its initiators, Sinus Lynge, EFFEKT, Steffen Maagaard, Artelia Denmark, and Mikkel Schlesinger, CEBRA, and join the panel discussion between John Schellnhuber and other European and Danish climate leaders moderated by Pernille Berg.
The Reduction Roadmap empowers investors, developers, consultants, contractors, and authorities across the industry to set specific emission targets for buildings. As such it is a benchmark showing whether a project is supporting or breaching the Paris Agreement. The roadmap has been widely adopted as a scientific baseline for the Danish building industry. Now, the time has come to scale the initiative at the European and global level to create a climate-centred movement.

Panel discussion: Make Room: Social practice design as a green transition tool for sufficient living

EFFEKT architect Iddo Goren has co-authored the paper "Make Room: Social Practice Design as a Green Transition Tool for Sufficient Living", which will be discussed under the subpanel of Adaptation through behaviour change and action.
Summary: While cities must prepare to accommodate an increasing share of population growth in the coming decades, the increasing consumption of floor area is a prevalent and challenging trend in high-income Western countries that needs to be reversed in order to meet net zero carbon goals. The research paper addresses this gap by investigating whether a social practice methodology applied as an innovative tool can help decouple the overconsumption of floor area. This model re-assesses and elevates the existing housing stock as a strategic asset that can be densified.

Guided tour to the Forest Tower
July 6 2023 with a bus departing from Bella Center at 1:15 pm and arrival at Camp Adventure at 2:30 pm.
Get a peek into the future of nature experiences on a guided tour around Camp Adventure’s Tower offering a unique nature experience not found anywhere else in Scandinavia. EFFEKT Co-founder Tue Hesselberg Foged will discuss how the elevated boardwalk leading to the tower has made the forest accessible to everyone without disrupting the natural environment – a habitat for a wide variety of species living in harmony with nature. On this guided tour we will take you around the tower and tell the story of how the Forest Tower went from idea to reality.
