EFFEKT has been announced as the winner in a masterplan competition for a new waterfront master plan development in Middelfart, Denmark.
The proposal focuses on developing a sustainable and diverse neighborhood, that remains resilient toward future climate change challenges facing the city which is located on the banks of Lillebælt on the island of Funen.
The 60.000 m2 mixed-use development will include multiple residential offerings - from private owners and rental units, to senior co-housing, social housing, and community housing.
A large public park connects the historic downtown to the waterfront through the new development. The park also mediates rainwater from the higher-lying city center to the strait. Along the water, the new neighborhood facilitates a continuous waterfront promenade spanning the entire length of the city.
The project immediately moves forward into detailed planning and zoning in close dialogue with the municipality and local stakeholders.
