As part of the renovation and conversion process of the original ‘Serumlaboratorium’ into residential units, the team is investigating and cataloging all the different historical features in order to inform the design and preserve the original details.

The research laboratory for infectious animal diseases was established in 1906 in the building designed by architect K. Varming and is part of the former Royal Veterinary and Agricultural College's campus area on Bülowsvej in Frederiksberg.

With new extensions added over the years, the different parts that compose the structure have unique details and decors from different eras – a cataloging process was necessary to identify each distinctive feature and to preserve them when possible. The preparation work also unveiled the different original coats of paint overlapped during the century-long use of the lab, which will be informing the color palette of the newly designed common spaces.

The building is going to be transformed into 18 dwellings of various sizes, with great respect to the cultural heritage of the historical building and preserving as many of the original details and ornamentation as possible.
