Kartoni Quartier moves forward
EFFEKT´s first project in Switzerland is moving forward. A group of local investors consisting of Glarner Pensionskasse, Trümpi Immobilien AG and Immoimpuls AG has formed a joint venture - Kartoni Quartier AG - to move the development of a former cardboard factory in the city of Glarus forward into planning and construction.
Situated between the Linth river and a mountain stream, the new neighborhood plan focuses on reintroducing water into the streets, surfacing the previously piped stream and using it as a recreative feature in the neighborhood. From the water-facing residential buildings, a lush riverbank promenade, to a new south-facing public park located at the confluence of the two waterways. As snowmelt runoff changes throughout the year, the varying water levels in the stream will influence and change the park as seasons change.
Spanning an area the size of four football fields the Kartoni Quartier will host 150 apartments, a commercial program and a new community center including cultural offerings and the local Music School.
The project is expected to break ground in 2022 pending planning approval.
