The Municipality of Middelfart is at the forefront of changing the way we plan and build cities with sustainability and climate resiliency at the heart of the strategy.
In 2015 we began working alongside the Municipality on climate-proofing the harbor front centered around the ambition to use recreational public space and activities to secure the coastal areas against stormwater from the downtown area running off into Lillebælt and rising tidal floods pressing up through the belt onto the harbor. The project - dubbed Climate Harbor - was revealed and exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 2016 and works in synergy with the Climate City strategy proposed for the downtown area by ADEPT.
The first section of the strategy - KulturØ Pladsen - was completed in 2019. Recently Middelfart launched an ambitious urban planning competition transforming the former industrial part of the harbor ‘Trafikhavnen’ into a brand new resilient neighborhood in the city - an area also included in the Climate Harbor strategy.
