GAME Streetmekka Viborg is among the 6 projects selected to progress to the final stage of the 2019 edition of Renover Prisen, the most important Danish award for renovation in architecture.
The renovation of GAME Streetmekka Viborg transformed an abandoned windmill factory into a vibrant hub for street sports and street culture, offering various facilities for self-organized sports and social spaces for the local youth of Viborg in Denmark.
The jury stated:
“GAME Streetmekka is a real-life example of successful transformation. From a function-packed production hall to an inviting GAME Streetmekka. It creates a valuable new identity, acts as an epicenter for the youth street sports and is the connector that links the area's various residential areas together in an interesting way. Add to this the gift of a new sharp-cut, transparent facade, the division into climate zones with external and internal insulation and the PCB-renovation, GAME Streetmekka is a convincing proposal for a lively oasis with something at heart. It is so distinguished an achievement that the nomination for the RENOVER prize is completely deserved.”
Renover Prisen was founded by Realdania and the Grundejernes Investeringsfond for the purpose of recognizing renovation projects that showcase the good practices addressing the great social task of updating the existing building stock in Denmark.
Final winner announcement will be made in September.
