Kildevæld Community Center
Kulturcenter Kildevæld is the neighborhood’s new gathering point. It’s a dynamic learning and culture hub all helping to create a common platform for social and cultural development.
The cultural centre focuses on the good and active everyday life and strengthens the opportunity for cultural meetings and movement activities in the neighborhood. The culture house is an open, flexible, and accessible gathering point in the district, and contains a library, theatre/concert hall, activity room, workshop areas, café, kitchen, and conference facilities, as well as several other functions and spatial qualities that ensure flexible use and a wide range of experiences for several different user groups. The goal of the construction was to open and create new synergies between inside and outside, and between the district, the park, the school, and the local organisations.
The house is divided into flexible spaces that can be adapted to several different functions and activities, with e.g. built-in wall furniture. Instead of a traditional linear layout, the new cultural centre offers a diverse spatial experience that provides space for different cultural offerings, such as theatre, music, and movement. In the design, several very different rooms are stacked on top of each other, so that together they form one large diverse "wooden bookcase" filled with open and surprising places, without traditional hallways and closed doors. The idea was to create a very transparent house that literally opens the school up to Kildevældsparken and the rest of Østerbro and invites cultural life inside.
With a positive interaction between Kildevældsparken and Kulturcenter Kildevæld, an attractive environment is created, where cultural offers are linked to good recreational areas. The positive synergy between culture, school, and nature is a sustainable mindset that exploits and strengthens the cultural use of already existing facilities and qualities. Kulturcenter Kildevæld is also lifted both environmentally, socially, and economically.
