Cloudburst & Culture
‘Grow Nørrebro’ is the name of EFFEKT’s proposal for the Nordic Built Cities Challenge, Cloudburst & Culture. The project combines urban development and climate adaption in a 85.000 m2 large area around Hans Tavsens Park and Korsgade in Nørrebro, Copenhagen, Denmark.
Gro Nørrebro suggests a model for ‘growing’ new urban spaces, city culture and city nature dynamically and organically in the neighbourhood, while strengthening the cultural, spatial and biological diversity in the area.
The project has two layers. The first layer is a new cloudburst road connecting Havns Tavsens Park with the lake, Pebling Sø. The new connection revitalises the area with new pavements, new promenades and a framework for water management, where the water becomes a ‘blue thread’ that connects the surroundings and gives the area a new distinctive identity. This layer will also strengthen the historical roots of the area and revitalise the historical urban spaces.
The second layer consists of 16 new urban spaces that will ‘grow’ organically through development in close collaboration with the local users, residents and other stakeholders. Each of the 16 new urban spaces will functions as a small city lab in itself, a lab for city life, biodiversity and new city culture. This layer will ensure that the project is rooted in the surrounding community, as well as support and strengthen the diversity of the neighbourhood.
